Innovation Lab & Micro Device R&D Services

From Concept to Proof of Capability to Production — Your Micro Manufacturing Journey Starts Here.

The Innovation Lab is where your product’s journey begins. We help engineers turn the toughest micro device concepts into manufacturable components — proving out capability in R&D and then transitioning seamlessly into high-volume production with Nanotech Precision. One partner, idea to scale.

Precision R&D Engineering Support for Complex Micro Component Development

The Nanotech Innovation Lab is a dedicated R&D consulting and engineering support division within Nanotech Precision. Focused on micro device and component development, the Lab offers design for micro manufacturability (DFM), micro prototyping, and short-run production services that help engineers transform ideas into ready-for-production components — faster and more cost-effectively.

But the Lab is more than a prototyping service. It’s the on-ramp to a production partnership. We establish proof of capability during development, then transition your validated design directly into high-volume manufacturing at Nanotech Precision — so you’re not handing your project to a new supplier when it matters most. Backed by world-class micro machining technologies and an agile development process, the Lab is ideal for the medical, aerospace, electronics, and automotive sectors.

Your Product’s Journey Through the Lab

Nanotech Innovation Lab Is A Division of Nanotech Precision LLC

The Innovation Lab is built to shorten your development cycle and de-risk the path to manufacturing. Here’s how a typical engagement moves from idea to scale:

1. Ability

The knowledge and skill to solve what others can’t. Our team brings decades of micro machining and precision tooling expertise to problems most job shops turn away — pushing the limits of what’s possible at micron scale.

2. Agility

Fast, collaborative iteration. We work side by side with your team, moving quickly from concept to prototype to validated process — so you reach a manufacturable design without the delays of a rigid, transactional vendor.

3. Equipment

Multiple in-house technologies under one roof. Swiss machining, femtosecond laser, EDM, and more — combined to find the right approach to your component, and the same equipment that will produce it at volume.

The Nanotech Precision Process

Step 1: The NTP Innovation Lab

  1. Customer Inquiry/Referral: The process begins with a customer inquiry or referral, where project requirements are reviewed and fit is evaluated.
  2. Engineering Review: Our engineering team conducts a technical review and prepares a quotation based on project specifications.
  3. Purchase Order: Once approved, the purchase order and contract requirements are reviewed and accepted.
  4. Process Development: We demonstrate capability through prototyping, development runs, and process optimization activities.
  5. Validation: Final inspections and validation activities are completed to ensure all requirements have been met.

Step 2: Supplier Qualification

NTP completes supplier qualification activities, including high-volume quotation development, First Article Inspection (FAI), quality agreement establishment, capacity planning, personnel training, and transfer to production readiness.

Step 3 & Ongoing: Nanotech Precision

  1. Production Contract: Production begins with order receipt, review, and formal order acknowledgment.
  2. Production: Products are manufactured in accordance with documented processes, with full traceability, quality controls, and record management.
  3. Shipment: Completed products are packaged and shipped in releases with all required documentation, including Certificates of Conformance (CoC).
  4. Follow-Up: Ongoing customer support includes feedback collection, performance review, and continuous improvement initiatives.

*Total quality management is woven into every process, ensuring consistent, repeatable results from concept through production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is your ideal customer?

Nanotech Precision partners with OEMs in regulated industries that share alignment in values and purchase components with micro features at high volumes. The Innovation Lab partners with R&D groups in regulated industries developing next generation products. We target ideal-fit partners who share our values and have the potential to become strategic, long-term customers.

What does the Innovation Lab actually do?

We provide micro component R&D services: design for micro manufacturability (DFM) guidance, micro prototyping, process development, and production qualification. The Lab takes a concept and turns it into a validated, production-ready component.

Do I have to commit to production to work with the Lab?

Not initially. You can use the Lab for DFM, prototyping, or your design verification and validation activities without committing to production. However, the Lab was created to support products with long-term manufacturing potential. By involving Nanotech Precision early in development, customers gain a partner that can help optimize the design for manufacturability and provide a seamless transition into production when the project is ready to scale.

How is prototyping in the Lab different from a typical prototype shop?

We prototype on full production-grade equipment, so what you validate is what you can actually manufacture at volume. That eliminates the common gap where a prototype works but can’t be scaled.

What stage of development should I engage you at?

Any stage — from an early concept that needs a manufacturability reality check, to a near-final design that needs a production partner. The earlier we’re involved, the more cost and time we can typically save through DFM.

What industries and applications do you support?

Regulated and quality-critical industries, such as medical, aerospace, and semiconductor, among others. Application examples include catheter and delivery components, implantable device development, microelectronic prototypes, semiconductor nozzles, and aerospace micro assemblies. The Lab is a particularly strong fit as an innovation lab for medical components.

What certifications back the Lab’s work?

The Lab feeds the production of Nanotech Precision, which is ISO 13485:2016-certified and CMMC 2.0 Level 2-certified. The Innovation Lab uses a structured stage-gate development system focused on de-risking, validation, knowledge capture, and scalable production transfer. Engineers develop, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes that are transferable to production.
